Quality USB Drives for quality films - that's the idea!

We have partnered with a supplier and chosen the design of our USB drives to deliver our wedding films. Have they met my expectations?

When delivering wedding films, we have started adding a luxury, boxed USB drive to the package. It is really important to me that every aspect of Nick Church Photography exceeds expectations in terms of quality so I was being fussy (let’s honest, probably over-fussy) when choosing the USB device.

There are tonnes of suppliers of custom USB drives, and I have looked at many of them. I since came across USB Memory Direct and I am very pleased that I did!

Disclosure Statement

Nick Church Photography has partnered with USB Memory Direct and so they kindly sent me the USB drives. However, there is no further obligation, and this post contains only my honest impressions.

Every Nick Church Photography wedding film needs a home

For my photography clients I generally include a wedding album so that there is something physical that clients can hold and enjoy as well as the digital versions of their pictures. Well, now that we are creating wedding films for many clients, I wanted an equivalent. Something that arrives, giving a burst of excitement that can’t quite be matched with a YouTube link by email.

Choosing the USB drive design and material

The custom USB drives from USB Memory Direct come in a variety of metal or plastic types, but it was their wooden range (called ‘Tower') that I was particularly interested in. The Tower USB Drive is supplied in a variety of coloured woods which allows businesses to match with their brand. The options are bamboo, maple, pine, walnut and mahogany and light fibre wood (if you know what this is, answers on a postcard!).

To tie in with the box I use to present drives to clients, I chose walnut. I think I was also illogically swayed by the wood used in my studio too!

All volume suppliers of USB drives usually offer options for printing your business name on the devices, and this is important to give a level of quality and helps make your branding as cohesive as possible. It also helps avoid the biggest risk of USB devices, which is being re-formatted or used by accident.

The thing that attracted me to USB Memory Direct was that they will engrave your logo onto the wooden USB drives, and this looked amazing on the website, and seems even higher quality and more ‘organic’ than printing. All important stuff for my business.

First Impressions…

When the drives arrived, less than a week after ordering, I was seriously impressed. This was not stained wood, this is a solid walnut body with a great finish; smooth to the touch, but so you can feel the grain.

The cap to protect the USB-A plug is made of the same material with a high-quality magnetic connection. It clicks into firmly Into place with a confident ‘clunk’ which I find strangely satisfying… I digress.

The Nick Church Photography logo, which they took from a simple PNG was engraved perfectly and looks fantastic on the side.

Pricing

USB Memory Direct is based in the US, so the usual reservations apply of longer lead-times and potential customs charges. But they ship internationally, and with the package arriving in less than a week from order, I can’t imaging things being too much quicker from a local supplier. But do bear in mind that you may pick up customs charges which I did. But even when I factored this charge into the prices usually charged, they were extremely good value. You’re not paying VAT at source after all, so fair enough really.

I received 25 drives, and thanks to COVID-19 (not thanks) they will last me longer than anticipated. But when these DO run out, I will definitely want more!
